BTC200 - 2018
Break the Cycle 200 is a one day 200 mile bike ride, driven by a mission of raising funds and awareness around the issue of human trafficking. With an 8 year daughter of my own, the idea of girls like her being sold into sex slavery is heartbreaking and appalling to say the least. In our affluent and relatively safe culture it is easy to ignore issues like these...but the facts are astonishing:
- An estimated 47 million adults and children worldwide are victims of human trafficking (15 times the population of Iowa)
- Approximately 75-80% of human trafficking is sex slavery and 80% of these victims are under 24
- It is estimated that 30,000 victims of sex trafficking die each year from abuse, disease, torture, and neglect

These victims are worth fighting for. BTC200 is a registered non-profit that raises funds to support local and global organizations that seek to rescue, restore, and address the cause of these issues. While the problem is massive in scope, even a small impact means a young girl can be saved from a life of unspeakable horror.
I am joining the fight by riding my bike...a small sacrifice compared with the pain endured by these victims. My athletic glory days are long gone, but I can grind it out...with the support of others around me and with a cause that pushes me through the burn, through the cold March rides, the windy April rides, the hot May rides, and my wife & kids getting sick of me being out on the trail any chance I get!
Will you join me in the fight? There is no donation too small...or too large! Know that making a small financial sacrifice means you are making a life-long impact to a victim in desperate need of a hero. I'm no hero, but together we can make a difference - help me change some lives!
