This is my third time running Falmouth on behalf of the BSU student emergency fund. Typically, I don't like to run in consecutive years because I don't like to ask folks for donations two years in a row. But this year is different. The Covid-19 pandemic has hit many students and their families hard. Many students and parents found themselves sick or out of work or caring for folks who were sick or working insane and dangerous hours as essential workers or some complicated combination of the above. The student emergency fund served many students this year and I suspect next year will be no different.
In the 20 years at BSU, I have known this institution as one that wants the best and the most for our students--our tough, hard-working, determined folks who don't know how amazing and remarkable they are. I am priviledged to have worked with so many of them and to see them become excellent humans in the world. I run for each and every one of them. I run for those will still come and still need. I want BSU to be there for all of them always. I am so grateful for you support in reaching that goal.
One last point: I am where I am today, in a life I can't hardly believe is mine, because someone else at some other time did for me. It is only right that I pay that gift forward.
Team BSU is running the 2020 New Balance Falmouth Road Race on August 16, 2020 to raise $20,000 to directly support the Student Emergency Fund.
The Student Emergency Fund assists current BSU students facing financial hardships resulting from emergency or crisis situations. Funds awarded are to help alleviate short-term financial needs of the student. This important resource for BSU students is sustained through the fundraising efforts by the BSU community.
Thank you to our BSU runners who have chosen to dedicate themselves to support this important fund and thank you to all who donate!
