This April I'll be attempting to run my first marathon (The New Jersey Marathon) and I'd like to use the opportunity to help raise money for the Halo Trust and their mine removal efforts specifically in the Republic of Artsakh ( Nagorno Karabakh ). The Halo Trust has been working to clear mine fields and cluster munitions from the region since 2000. Due to a current generous offer to match all donations there is a real opportunity to make Artsakh mine free by 2020.
I was lucky enough to visit this part of the world in August of 2016, I experienced the beauty of the land and the people who inhabit it. The continued removal of the mines will not only save lives but allow the people living there to utilize the lands full potential freely and safely. Artsakh has one of the highest per capita incidences of landmine accidents in the world and unfortunately one third of those incidents involve children. Let's get together and help an organization get rid of some of these brutal weapons in this amazing place.
Below are links to The Halo Trust's website which further explain the situation, the need, what they're doing and how they do it.
Thank you in advance for any and all help or for simply raising awareness about what's going on in Artsakh.
