Sunrise Day Camp has been a very important part of my family’s life for a long time. For those of you who do not know, Sunrise Day Camp the world’s only full-summer day camps for children with cancer and their siblings, offered completely free of charge. Sunrise is a proud member of the Sunrise Association whose mission is to bring back the joys of childhood to children with cancer and their siblings world-wide.
We were first introduced to Sunrise when my grandpa, Larry, told us about it. He has been on event committees, was honored for his dedication and volunteered at camp as a tennis specialist. He even has a plaque that reads “Larry’s Court” next to the tennis court. Since then, my parents have also joined fundraising committees, been honored at events and continue to support Sunrise. Now, its my turn! I have attended Planting Day in the past where we beautify camp and plant flowers before the camp season starts.
As my bat mitzvah approaches, I want to do more for Sunrise. I am hosting a dance exercise class at 305 Fitness and all the proceeds of this event will go directly to Sunrise Day Camp. I did hope to raise $2,500 so I can sponsor a pizza party and ice cream sundae party for the entire camp but now, with all the generousity of my friends and family, my new goal is $6000. With that together we can send a child with cancer to camp for the ENTIRE summer!
