As you may know, about a year ago I sustained a freak injury while working out resulting in a super fun emergency back surgery to remove part of a lumbar disk that was compressing my spinal cord. The picture in the profile is me, using a walker after the surgery, because well that's what you do when your leg doesn't work. Through lots of PT and strength training, I have thankfully been able to upgrade from a walker to an arm crutch to now being crutch free. I'm still rehabbing my loss of leg function and unable to do all the things I used to enjoy, which has been trying at best. Determined to not be defeated by this (hopefully temporary) setback, I decided to sign up for the Boston Strength Alliance Powerlifting Meet anyway because even though I can’t do all the lifts I can bench and while it might not be a lot it's something. If you want a front row seat to “Brooke’s Beefy Bench” (trademark phrase courtesy of my strength coach Emily Beinecke) come by Achieve Fitness Boston on September 22.
