In 1990, fresh out of Cornell, I was working for ARA Services (now ARAMARK) at Salomon Brothers in New York. I was a cafeteria manager and Peter was one of the few Salomon employees who gave me the time of day. We became friends and have remained friends for over 28 years. Peter moved to Dallas to work for American Airlines, but we have stayed in touch over the years. Peter attended my wedding; and Ted and I were in Maine for Peter's marriage to Sally, just weeks after 9/11.
Four years ago, Peter was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease). His courage and optimism in facing a debilitating disease has been remarkable. Peter has always been an upbeat guy, but I have been struck by his drive to keep working for American Airlines AND raise funds for Answer ALS through his platform of "Warlick's Warriors".
Answer ALS is the largest coordinated research effort to end ALS in the history of the disease. Its mission is to build a comprehensive clinical and biological assessment of ALS so that researchers and scientists across the globe are equipped to understand and ultimately end ALS.
I hope you will join me in supporting my dear friend, Peter, and Answer ALS. I have committed to train for and complete a half Ironman in Indian Wells/La Quinta, California on December 8, 2019. I have set a goal to raise $7030-- $100 for each mile of the race. Although my challenge that day will be minor compared to the struggles that Peter has faced and will continue to face, it is may way of showing support for Peter.
Please consider a generous gift in support of my efforts and Answer ALS.
