Your support of the Seattle JazzED Soundtrack for the Future Virtual Gala benefits young musicians during the COVID-19 public health crisis. Hundreds of families and teachers are utilizing JazzED's free and sliding scale online programs. This tells us that JazzED is needed. And that JazzED needs YOU. 💙
Your gift will do 3 things instantly:
· Keep all learning FREE or accessible via sliding scale tuition
· Create NEW classes, videos and online tools for young people and teachers for the duration of this crisis
· Buys and repairs INSTRUMENTS for students without the means to procure their own
JazzED exists to nurture connection and personal growth in young people through playing and enjoying music together. That's the heart of it, and it's what we're doing online, to the best of our abilities. JazzED IS happening amidst a public health crisis; new connections between people are being forged through music, and our mission is alive, it's just over the internet, telephone and snail mail. And your gift, whether that's monetary or simply cheering us on, will support that work.
JazzED students are mastering their instrument in online lessons, zooming into online masterclasses with their peers, and tuning into Guided Listening sessions with their families. We built a free toolkit for teachers and their students, which teachers from all over the country are using.
There are young people at home without reliable technology and we're making sure they get music too. This involves personal connections and phone calls with our beginner families regularly to check in and set up free lessons and send needed resources.
We feel tremendous hope for the future. Our deeply devoted community, people like YOU, are helping to steer JazzED through this tumultuous time. Nothing can replace playing music together in person but that day will come again, and we'll be ready for it.
Seattle JazzED started in 2010 , operating out of a church in Columbia City. We had 56 students the first year. And now? More than 1,300 students come from over 100 different schools to play together every year. Plus 6,000 young people in Title 1 schools experience a live music JazzED assembly. Our passion is to ensure all students that walk through our doors have a life-affirming musical education in jazz, a quintessential Black American art form. All families can opt into our programs at a price that works for them, no questions asked. Free instrument loans are always available.
