Join us as we work to bring the Schoodic Ferry's innovative experiential research and marine education programs to life aboard the R/V Katie Grace! Help us provide unique marine education opportunities for Maine students, allowing each student to get their hands wet as they dive into helping local researchers collect data for ongoing environmental baseline monitoring studies.
Students will contribute to studies by learning to identify local marine mammals, pelagic birds, and plankton. They will assist researchers as they collect physical oceanographic data like sea temperature, salinity, water clarity, and pH. Students will also have the opportunity to help collect and count the data obtained from plankton tows, including seeing different microplastics, discussing how they end up inside Frenchman Bay, and how long they are each expected to last in the ocean.
In order to launch this exciting new learning opportunity, we need your help! The Katie Grace, Frenchman Bay Research Boating' s primary inspected passenger vessel, needs to have both of her engines rebuilt, and needs to have her cabin turned into a working floating classroom.
Please consider donating $5, $10, $25, $50 or even $100 towards this cause today! Each little bit adds up quickly, helping us at Frenchman Bay Research Boating continue to create opportunities for young Mainers to fall in love with the Gulf of Maine ecosystem.
