Hello! My name is Malia Sako, and I’m an occupational therapy graduate student at the University of Southern California. Last year, I was accepted into the Albert Schweitzer Fellowship, which brings 15 health-related grad students together every year to develop their own sustainable community programs that serve the underserved.
This fellowship allows me to pursue my passion for blending mental health OT with yoga and mindfulness. Painted Brain is a non-profit center in Los Angeles that provides lasting community-based solutions to mental health challenges, and they have graciously welcomed me to bring yoga and mindfulness to its rich culture and community.
Overall, my intention is to provide Painted Brain with free weekly yoga classes so that members can learn stress management strategies and feel empowered as active players in their own health. My time is voluntary and fueled by personal gratitude for yoga’s impact on my own mental wellness.
In order to implement this program, I need your help to supply Painted Brain’s space with mats, blocks, and blankets. Your donation may also go toward essential oils for aromatherapy, eye masks for restorative practices, or refreshments for mindful hiking events.
I greatly appreciate any donation that you can make to help me bring yoga to Painted Brain. Thank you for your time in reading my blurb about everything I am passionate about!
Warmly, Malia Sako
