We need YOUR help to make the Reading Public Museum Henrietta’s permanent home.
The Museum is looking for the community’s help to raise $50,000 to purchase the oil painting, "Henrietta with Red Book," by John Sloan, oil on canvas, 30x24 inches, to add to the permanent collection.
Why Henrietta? Here are just a FEW reasons of why we NEED her!
1. The Museum currently has four etchings by John Sloan, but no oil painting in the collection.
2. Sloan is an important Pennsylvania artist (born in Lock Haven, Pa.)
3. This early work reflects the artist’s experimentation in color in the 19-teens.
4. Sloan painted Henrietta Mayer, who was a modern woman—a so-called ‘Shop Girl’ and artist’s model—at least five times between 1913 and 1914 in canvases which were essentially studies in color. One version of Henrietta is also owned by the Delaware Art Museum.
