Bring Back The Mack
The year 2020 marks Point Pleasant Fire Departments 100th Year of Volunteer Service to the Borough of Point Pleasant, NJ, to pay tribute to a century of our members' dedication to our residents we have decided to have a rolling memorial with the restoration of our 1950 Mack Aerial Ladder.
In February we saw a picture of one of our old ladder trucks on the internet, through some quick research, we found the location of the truck in a salvage yard in Poughkeepsie, NY. After our members paid the truck a visit it was in fact our 1950 Mack 65' Aerial Ladder, that not only served Point Pleasant Boro Fire Company No. 1, but diligently served Point Pleasant Boro Fire Company No. 2 as well. Since the truck has left us both Fire Companies No. 1 and No. 2 have sinced merged creating the department we have today. Our department aquiring an antique apparatus that actually served both companies could not have greater signifigance as our centennial restoration project. Our members have a great drive and passion for this project. After the members voted to bring the truck back home for restoration, most of which will be done in house, our fire fighters within two weeks of the trucks delivery had that 707 Thermodyne Gasoline motor purring like it was just shut off at a fire call the night before. We still have members on the membership rolls that responded on this truck when it was in service, we hope to give them the chance to ride on it again, and to create many fantastic memories for our next generation of volunteers.
We have a long road ahead of us, if you are interested in helping bring back to life, not only a piece fire fighting history, but also help a fire department and its town celebrate an amazing centennial of distinguished service, we humbly ask you to donate to our project. Every cent you can spare helps us get closer to Bringing Back the Mack. Thank you for your consideration.
