In a changing and challenging world, connection is key.
The novel coronavirus pandemic has revealed the tears in the US safety net and stretched families across the country even further to meet basic needs. It has also shown what happens when people come together for the success of our children and communities. Brilliant Detroit is proud to be a part of this response in Detroit and has been coordinating and connecting supportive services to meet the hopes and needs of families with young children during this time through food, resources, and ongoing support. The Stand Together Foundation's unique #HelptheHelpers effort is providing up to $100,000 in matching funds to frontline organizations like ours. With this support, we can reach even more families more frequently, expanding our impact in this time of crisis.
In partnership with Gleaners Community Food Bank, Brilliant Detroit is connecting families across the city with safe food distributions every week. These distributions are also a time to connect with families and provide important resources.
Brilliant Detroit is working with partners across the city to provide Learn at Home and other critical resource kits to help families with children of all ages. These kits have activities to help families manage ongoing learning for their children while at home. In addition, they connect families with resources such as free internet services, which allows more people to access the online support of organizations across Detroit.
Connection is key and so Brilliant Detroit has been calling all of our participating families in each neighborhood every week to check in, see what people need, and meet those needs. The families are also calling us and a beautiful exchange is taking place with so many children and caregivers not only thinking about how to support themselves but their neighbors as well.
We know this little bit of Detroit magic is what will keep our families and communities stable and lead our way out of this pandemic to a brighter future.
