WE NEED YOU
Please help Art Z to bridge and heal the divide between those who are most vulnerable and our staff who serve them. This fund will ensure we continue to support individuals who have suffered COVID-19 trauma and loss, and wish to use art therapy to heal. It is with a heavy heart for those in crisis and the utmost respect for your own situations that I trust you share my passion. I am optimistic in our partnership.
WHY WE NEED YOU
Since 2005, Alchemy Open Studio (Art Z) has made it possible for over 3,000 individuals with disabilities to create community, reach their potential, and overcome serious challenges to embrace wellness.
This current need is unprecedented, as Art Z has temporarily closed for the first time ever, to mitigate the spread of COVID -19. The children, teens, adults and seniors we serve are further isolated by social distancing, yet the need to connect to community, express their concerns, be seen and be heard is more compelling than ever.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
The intention of this Bridge and Heal the Divide campaign is twofold. It will support interim services and ensure that Art Z studio will be able to re-open and serve the community when it is safe to do so. Your gift is intended to provide immediate financial support for essential payments including rent, utilities and insurance during closure, as well as providing the following intermediate services:
• Quarantine/Isolation therapeutic art kits
• Virtual art therapy for clients in crisis
• Virtual Art Abilities workshop
WHY ART THERAPY
Art therapy is a powerful tool for moving through challenging events that are hard to express verbally. No previous arts experience is necessary and the stigma attached to therapy is eliminated. Simple art processes stimulate meaningful expression that provides clarity, resolution and motivation to move forward in a healthy manner.
HOW WE SERVE
Art Z will be guided by best practices developed by The American Art Therapy Association and use their “Resources for Art Therapists during the COVID-19 Pandemic”.
Our staff and volunteers will assemble and distribute Isolation/Quarantine therapeutic art kits (developed for all ages after the Quarantine Family Toolkit by Art Therapist Kristin Ramsey, ATR-BC). Virtual online art therapy sessions will be conducted by a Registered Art Therapist and guided by Ethical Principles for art therapists.
Art Z's core program is Art Abilities, a vibrant arts workshop serving all adults, especially those individuals with physical or intellectual disabilities, in recovery from mental health issues or addictions, and those on the autism spectrum. They're a delightfully diverse crew of artists who sport only one label... artist.
To continue Art Abilities, we will reunite this community with virtual online workshops and therapeutic art kits that support healthy expression.
It is through the compassion and support of people like you that Art Z can continue to thrive. You provide individuals with disabilities, the ability to heal and lead more fulfilling, independent lives. We are grateful for your generosity, especially at this trying time. Together we can bridge and heal the divide, one masterpiece at a time!
