Please join in our 22nd annual fundraising event in honor of Brian Rooney. After 18 successful years of the Brian Rooney Run/Walk in Central Park we changed venues three years ago and renamed the event the Brian Rooney Sit, Sip & Play. We are still raising money in Brian's name for a great cause -- research for a cure for lymphoma -- we just do less running and more sitting & sipping.
NEW: This will be the last offical year of the Brian Rooney Run/Walk-Sit/Sip & Play
We've decided it is good timing to end what has been a long, successful run. Thanks to the generosity of all of you over the past 21 years, the event raised a total of more than $380,000. The Lymphoma Foundation distributed these funds in Brian's name for use in lymphoma research. (Last year we donated money to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society as Dr. Mortimer Lacher, the president of the Foundation, and Diana Lacher, took their well-deserved retirement and the Lymphoma Foundation closed doors.) This year's donations will also go to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
The Brian Rooney event has been held each spring in memory of Brian, who died at age 32 from non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Brian was a lawyer, avid runner, prankster extraordinaire and a wonderful son, brother, cousin and friend. We hope that the money we have raised has helped to defeat lymphoma and that others will not have to miss their loved one as much as we miss Brian.
While we will not continue to contact you annually, we hope that you will remember Brian on this weekend each year -- the Saturday of the weekend before Memorial Day weekend. And you will consider contributing to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or other charity in Brian's memory. And/or you will go for a run, or pull off a really good prank in honor of Brian, the most strategic and successful prankster of all.
