Brian and Courtney will be running the Amica Newport Half Marathon on October 13th. We chose this race because it starts and ends in one of our absolute favorite places- Easton’s Beach, where we said “I do!” 8 years ago. We have decided to take this opportunity to give back and fundraise for a non-profit organization that is very important to Courtney and her work as a Specialty Pharmacist. Patient Access Network Foundation is an organization dedicated to helping federally and commercially insured people living with life-threating, chronic and rare diseases with the out-of-pocket costs for their medications. Everyday, Specialty Pharmacies rely on non-profit foundations, like PAN, to assist in providing financial assistance to patients who cannot otherwise afford medication for their life threatening or chronic illness. This includes patients in our commmunity- an elderly man with prostate cancer and a high deductible Medicare plan, or a mother with small children who has recently lost her job and cannot afford her high cost Multiple Sclerosis medication. For many of these patients, this means paying thousands of dollars per month for their medication.
PAN has provided over 1 million underinsured patients with over $3 billion in financial assistance, however there are still limited funds and times when there is no financial assistance available to patients. This puts some patients in a position of choosing to put food on the table or treat their medical condition.
We look forward to challenging ourselves in hopes of making a difference in someone else’s life!
