Last year we celebrated the 50th anniversary of the founding of Special Olympics in Chicago. This year is the 50th anniversary of the charity that helped make it happen. I want to do something to honor an amazing group of people who did more than raise money. They were committed, dedicated and never said no to anything that would benefit the athletes. My late husband, Jack McHugh, who supported the first games, was asked to raise money for future events. Jack said yes and reached out to his friends and they started SCC-Special Children’s Charities. On the 50th anniversary of the founding of SCC, I want to honor their “can-do” spirit, by challenging myself -- I am climbing Mount Kilimanjaro at 19,341’ and doing it in their name. I am reaching out to former board members and the families of the board members who have passed away.
