In 2019, at the age of 37, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I went in for what I thought was a proactive mammogram and was shocked to receive this diagnosis. Thanks to early detection and aggressive treatment, I am cancer free.
I decided to join this marathon team because not only have I placed a renewed emphasis on my health, but the Breast Cancer Research Foundation directly impacted my outcome. In addition to being a fantastic resource as I navigated my diagnosis, treatment and recovery, my doctor is also one of their researchers. Her extensive experience gave me options I didn't think I would have.
I am thrilled to support continued research that will help more women like myself.
More about this wonderful cause:
Our BCRF Half Marathon team is diverse—we are breast cancer patients, survivors, family members, employees, supporters, allies, professionals, runners, non-runners, and even researchers. But what we have in common is one thing: the desire and dedication to do our part to help bring about a cure for breast cancer in our lifetime. For more than 25 years, BCRF-funded researchers have been at the forefront of nearly every significant breakthrough in understanding, preventing and treating the disease. We know that the answers continue to lie in science, and that the only thing standing in the way is research funding. With your help, together we can accelerate progress and achieve a world without breast cancer.
