I am a 9 year survivor of Breast Cancer. Breast Cancer doesn't run in my family. I found the lump myself doing a breast self examine. These exams are important because the minute I noticed a lump, I knew. I went to work the next morning and as quiet as I was, the girls heard my answer to the question "what are you being seen for" I said I found a lump and the room exploded in a gasp. I worked with 4 other ladies in our office. So now my secret was out and I felt a cold panic down to my soul. They got my into the office very quickly but were closed mouthed about it and said someone would call me to schedule a mammogram. Later that day I got the call and they said that they could schedule me but the appointment wasn't for 3 WEEKS! I said, "I am not mature enough to wait that long" so I found someone who could get me in that day. The doctor was saying things things but she was very vague, it was then that I knew it was cancer. That was the third week of May 2009. My surgery was the next week. I did chemo, no radiation because you can't get reconstruction if you have radiation. My journey is not the norm. I had alot of surgeries because I had a rookie plastic surgeon. And because I didn't know anything about what was suppose to happen. Enough said, I am a survivor and I thank God everyday that he wakes me up. Please donate so other women can have the same chance at life as I did.
