Break the Cycle 200 (BTC 200) uses epic one-day 200-mile athletic events to raise awareness and funds to break the cycle of human trafficking in the U.S., SE Asia and even more alarming, right here in Iowa. I am joining 10 other women to make up the first all-female team to tackle the 200 mile run relay.
10 years ago the church we were attending hosted an event that educated attendees on the issues of human trafficking in India. It was put on by an organization working to provide freedom to the women and girls caught in the sex trade in Asia. God stirred a passion in me to be in prayer for this global human rights issue ever since then. It always seemed like a problem "out there".
This past winter/spring, our small group at church has been doing a study on God's command to Live Justly as found in the book of Micah. Human trafficking came up several times in discussion, and I had a burden on my heart and a renewed sense of urgency in prayer over this issue. What seemed like "out of the blue", a friend reached out to ask if I was interested in this Relay Run to raise awareness of human trafficking right here in the U.S. In fact, the issue is right here in Central Iowa. I originally turned the opportunity down - the timing was not ideal with fun family vacation plans for the summer already on the calendar. But I couldn't stop thinking about it...in my prayers for the victims of human trafficking, this run kept coming to mind. Don't get me wrong, I love a good relay run, but I truly felt like God was prompting me to figure out a way to participate. After discussing with my sweet husband, he agreed we could make it work. So, here I am, thankful for the opportunity to raise awareness and funds with BreakTheCycle200.
All of your support dollars will help break the cycle of trafficking by rescuing victims, reducing the causative factors of trafficking, and restoring survivors of human trafficking. Please consider a generous donation to a worthy cause.
Job 29:16-17
I was a father to the needy; I took up the case of the stranger. I broke the fangs of the wicked and snatched the victims from their teeth.
