On October 11, I am walking in solidarity with victims of domestic violence in New Jersey by participating in Partners for Women and Justice’s Break the Cycle Virtual 5 Mile Walk. More than ever during this pandemic, survivors need legal assistance to navigate the courts. More than ever, they need my support and yours.
I retired from Partners several months ago, but I continue to believe deeply in its mission and hope you do to.
COVID has up-ended the judicial process for victims seeking protections for themselves and their children. Nearly all restraining order hearings are now conducted remotely, with participants zooming in from different places and using more or less sophisticated devices. Can you imagine trying to represent yourself remotely using only your phone (with limited pre-paid minutes, at that) to connect? Can you imagine trying to testify over the phone? Or present evidence? Or bring in witnesses? Without any help? This is what a victim of domestic violence faces if she does not have an attorney to guide and represent her. Her phone might be smart, but it’s not that smart.
With your help, Partners for Women and Justice will be there to help a survivor navigate a confusing and difficult legal system in these very challenging times. by continuing to provide free legal assistance to domestic violence victims and their children.
My goal is to raise $4,000 for Partners. With your support, I hope to reach – and even exceed - my goal! Please support my fundraising goal by clicking the Donate button above.
