Break the Cycle 200 (BTC 200) uses epic one-day 200-mile athletic events to raise awareness and funds to break the cycle of human trafficking in the U.S. and SE Asia.
I'm running with a team of individuals at Raccoon River Park on Friday, June 26th. I hope to run over 20 miles. This is an all-day event to shed some light on a cause that troubles many. There is an evil underworld out there that exploits people of all walks of life. Trafficking involves transporting someone into a situation of exploitation. This can be forced labor, marriage, prostitution, and organ removal.
It's estimated that internationally there are between 20 and 40 million people in modern day slavery today.
Globally, an estimated 71% of enslaved people are women and girls, while men and boys account for 29%.
The average age a teen enters the sex trade in the US is 12-14 years old.
Human trafficking earns global profits of roughly $150 billion a year for traffickers, $99 billion of which comes from comercial sexual exploitation.
The vast majority of cases in human trafficking go undetected.
Why I'm running:
Running has always been about me and for me. It's a time that I find myself most free from the distractions, worries, and cares of life. And life is hard sometimes, but some have a far harder life. Reading some of these stats on human trafficking is troubling. My three daughters are at or nearing those ages that are prime for sex trade. For the first time I'm running for something other than myself. My hope is that at the very least you recognize that this wickedness is all around us and become aware of the injustice to those who are trapped in it.
If you would like to give to support the cause and continue the efforts I would greatly appreciate it.
"Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good." -- Romans 12:21
All of the support dollars will help break the cycle of trafficking by rescuing victims, reducing the causative factors of trafficking, and restoring survivors of human trafficking.
