Brave Maeve was diagnosed with Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis (multifocal bone) at 8 weeks old. Although this disease is curable and treatable, she was assigned the daunting task of a year-long treatment plan. In a year's time, Maeve had to endure: 1 port-a-cath, 2 central lines, 6 surgical procedures, 12 overnight hospital stays, 25 chemotherapy treatments, 208 doses of Bactrim, 250 doses of steroids, 380 shots of blood thinner, 730 doses of Zantac, in addition to multiple Xrays, CTs, MRIs, echocardiograms, bloodwork, and home nurse visits. To date, Maeve is doing awesome! She just became a member of the Pediatric Oncology Survivorship in Transition (POST) clinic and will be seen once a year. She is happy and healthy. Although we had a rough and scary first year with Maeve, we have witnessed many other families whose struggle with pediatric cancer continues. Dr. Jason Canner, one of Maeve's oncologists, founded the Cure It Foundation. Help us support this cause!
