Brandy was in terrible shape on intake and one of her pups had already died by the time she and the 8 others were surrendered.
They lived on a reserve where there is no easy access to vet care and their owner was unable to financially provide it.
The mother dog Brandy is 72 lbs and is skin and bones yet she is very sweet and loves all the attention.
How we got them - A foster/adopter contacted us to take in 2 pups - before she got the 2 pups from her boss (the next day) - one was put to sleep by a vet, as they did not know what to do for him.
Then the same woman asked our foster/adopter if we could help with another Mother from the same home with 9 pups, as well as another Mother with newborns.
We agreed to help and in the meantime a pup died from the litter of 9.
We got the Mother Brandy and her 8 pups the first weekend of March and they saw our vet on March 4th.
Brandy had chronic diarrhea, missing hair, and when fecal was tested it came back for hookworm and whipworm, both which cannot be effectively treated while nursing the pups.
This past weekend her heartworm test results came back and were positive.
This dog Brandy and her babies are quarantined and will require months of care.
Brandy has been given kaopectate with charcoal to slow the diarhea, and she will have to be treated for everything else once she is done weaning the pups.
She will require a lifetime of preventative care.
The rescue has taken in 15 dogs and pups in mere days so every cent donated will help us help them.
