I have always had a passion to fight against injustice for those that don't have a voice. Since a young girl, I was always so fascinated by Harriet Tubman and the underground Railroad. It was horrific and yet powerful that there were those who were willing to standup and say this cannot remain the same. Even though slavery was something taught in schools, how we have all changed and the laws have changed - we find ourselves in a time where there are more in slavery today than ever before. And this Freecember I wanted to do a challenge that would be simple enough for my girls and I do to do together to have those conversations with each other and also with their friends, that even at their age, they can stand up against injustice. That we don't have to wait until we are older, until we become adults to participate in loving the marginalized and voiceless. So, the girls and I are going to be doing some braids everyday throughout the month of December to support Beauty For Ashes which combbats human trafficking by providing a safe home for at-risk girls in North Africa, giving them a place to have a new beginning, to develop hope, and dignity and I am so proud to do my little part of giving them a voice through this campaign.
