Hello everyone! We hope you are doing well and staying healthy amidst the current circumstances. As you may know, the Blood Pressure Project is a UC Berkeley student-run nonprofit that operates to provide free blood pressure screenings, education about heart health, and connection to primary care to the underserved populations of Berkeley and San Francisco.
A few months ago, we hosted a fundraiser for Doctors Without Borders and, thanks to our generous donors, raised $1300 towards their efforts to combat COVID-19. Since the pandemic is still ongoing, we decided to host another fundraiser, this time to help UNICEF deliver PPE to combat COVID-19 in India.
We are hosting this fundraiser because in light of the current COVID-19 crisis, we recognize that there are far more pressing concerns and more vulnerable populations that could use our services. Thus, in response to the ongoing situation, we will be hosting this fundraiser as part of our Coronary Combat project in order to expand our activities and actively partake in the Californian COVID-19 Response.
India is one of the hardest hit countries by the virus. On September 16th, India's total caseload surpassed 5 million — a number only the United States had so far exceeded. India has the 3rd highest death count due to COVID, however, many of the country’s deaths are not medically certified, so the actual number may be higher. Furthermore, studies have shown about 1 in 4 Indians already have coronavirus antibodies which shows that real rates of exposure to the virus may be much higher than confirmed cases indicate. Lack of basic yet essential sanitation and water contributes to these surges in cases, emphasizing the need for proper PPE for frontline workers.
Your kind donations will be utilized by UNICEF to help health care workers get access to Personal Protective Equipment, Hygiene Kits with soap and water tablets, and other life-saving supplies and stop the spread of COVID-19 in India.
We are directing you to our GoFundMe account, which will be active from 10/14/20 to 5/31/21, so that the Blood Pressure Project can track our contribution to UNICEF. However, all the proceeds of our GoFundMe account will be directly donated to UNICEF. Any amount that is donated is greatly appreciated, and will undoubtedly have a positive impact on our future!
