I became a board member 2 years ago after I attended the Youth of the Year program where each club nominates a Youth of a Year and the winner moves on to regional and then hopefully the state competition. I was so compelled by the youth's stories. Three of the four youth referenced being bullied in their speeches. Children today must cope with bullying not only one on one but through social media. Bullying victims can become sad and depressed and lose their identity. Indiana has the second highest rate of teen suicide. The Boys and Girls Clubs gave these youth a safe place to be accepted for themselves. The Boys and Girls Clubs allowed these children to thrive.
The youth at the Clubs learn leadership, compassion for others, the importance of volunteering and numerous other life skills that will help them succeed in life. Inside our ten Clubs throughout Northwest Indiana, members are free to learn, explore, follow their passion and become the person they dream to be.
Please join me in assisting the Boys and Girls Club with giving the youth of our community the tools to succeed. Any donations, large or small make an impact. During the Art Van Challenge, the top fundraiser receives a $100,000 donation. There is a small service fee for your online donation which you can select to deduct from your donation or pay. We more than offset the cost of fundraising. Last year, we achieved 2nd place and a $50,000 donation from Art Van Furniture.
Please consider an on line donation today. Donations are accepted May 1st - May 22nd at noon EST. Thank you for considering a donation.
