Gang-involved individuals (we call Core Influencers) are closest to the problems of poverty and violence in their neighborhoods, and therefore are closest to their solution.
At College Bound, we walk towards these young people and help “Uncorner” their potential because entire communities suffer if we don't. We can’t do this work alone. Core Influencers make up only 1% of Boston’s youth but are responsible for 74% of the street violence on only 5% of the City's street corners –disproportionally impacting the safety, opportunity and progression of their neighborhoods.
Join us in extending the innovation and opportunity Boston is known for to all its neighborhoods and young people. You can be a part of our Uncornered work, which provides the mentors, supports and instruction to move Core Influencers from the “corners” towards a post-secondary credential and a family-sustaining wage – immediately impacting their communities and enabling them to lead lasting neighborhood change from the inside out.
Serving 150 Core Influencers annually, our work leads to 74% not recidivating (compared to the 50% recidivism rate in Massachusetts).
Join us in doing things differently. Donate now and help us when we need it most, during the quickly approaching summer months when gang violence is at its highest. Last summer, there were 59 victims of shootings, a 37% increase from the previous summer.
If we can keep Core Influencers off the corners for good, we save lives, unlock potential and hopefully one day, begin to “Uncorner” entire neighborhoods.
Gifts both large and small will help us meet our goal to raise a minimum of $6K on this platform before May 11th. If we meet this goal, we qualify to compete for grants of $10K to $100K from the Gannett Foundation to help support our Boston Uncornered work!
