Welcome! Thank you for visiting my Crowd Rise page and taking the first step in supporting my efforts to fundraise for The Boston Public Library.
Sports have always played a fundamental role in my life. Before running, I was involved in many other sports; rugby being one of my favorites. Even with all the risks that came with playing the sport, it grew to be something I loved to play. I began playing when I was 11 and throughout all those years of playing, I always left the field without a scratch. It was not until a game in December of 2013 that I received a few too many hits and suffered a brain hemorrhage and a severe concussion. Because of the severity of the injury, I was told I would no longer be allowed to play contact sports. Devastated with these news, I felt defeated, but after a very long year of being inactive, I was finally able to resume minimal physical activity. I started by strengthening my muscles and retraining my body by going to the gym and after my employment with Nike began running in November of 2015. Three years later and I am full of gratitude by the amount of support and friends I have gained in the running community. I am so happy to have found another sport to continue my love for athletics and I am honored to be running my first marathon on behalf of the first public library in the United States!
Since I began my running journey, I have dreamed of one day running the Boston Marathon which is why I am thrilled to have the chance to fulfill that dream while supporting the Boston Public Library and the role the different branches play in our communities.
Along with being the first public library, The Boston Public Library was the first public library to lend books, the first to have a branch library, and the first to have a children’s room. Public libraries are often underfunded and many people do not consider the amount of funding they need to operate. Your tax-deductible donations will go towards the enhancement and enrichment of after-school programs at the libraries and to continue the mission of keeping these programs FREE and open to the public. Recognizing the role my local library played in my education and my becoming a book lover, I want to help other children have the opportunity to find joy in reading and feel as much at home as I did while growing up in the library.
Please consider joining me in supporting Team BPL by donating. Any donation no matter how big or small is greatly appreciated and I am forever grateful to anyone who helps me reach my goal. Thank you all in advance for your help and support as I take on these 26.2 miles!
