Breast cancer can make anyone feel alone. While mortality rates have dropped 39% among women since 1989, this year about 266,120 American women are expected to be diagnosed with breast cancer, and unfortunately, 40,920 women are expected to lose their battle from the disease. But, together, we are stronger than breast cancer. American Cancer Society Denim Days brings us together to help save lives from breast cancer. Denim Days will take place throughout October 2019, but please join Boston Partners as we participate on the day the nation will celebrate on Friday, October 4, 2019. Since the event began in 1996, Denim Days participants have raised more than $97 million to make sure no one must face the disease alone. From investing in research to free rides to chemo and places to stay when treatment is far from home, the American Cancer Society is there for people every step of the way. Denim Days began with a simple concept – if each of us takes a small step to help eliminate breast cancer, collectively, those steps will take us far in achieving our goal. Employees at a private company got together to ask coworkers for donations to “go casual” for the cause. And what’s more casual than denim? The idea spread, and now companies, schools, and other organizations nationwide have participated in raising funds and awareness to support our programs and services that help those with breast cancer, and to help others avoid a diagnosis altogether. Learn more about how the American Cancer Society fights breast cancer by visiting www.cancer.org/breastcancer. Here’s how you can join in: Donate $5 or more to the American Cancer Society with cash, check or through this website and you can wear jeans on October 4th. (I’ll remind you, don’t worry!) That’s it! You’re now a cancer fighter. We have a company goal of $1,500; last year we raised $1,377 and I think we can beat that this year. The money goes directly to the American Cancer Society, who provides more funding for breast cancer research than any other organization. They also help women access breast cancer screenings and treatment, and give patients and families somewhere to turn for support and resources. On Friday, October 4th, you can wear jeans to work provided you make a charitable donation of $5 (or more) to Denim Day. You can make your donation online or give it to one of the designated staff from each of our offices. We are hoping for 100% participation for this worthy cause. Collectors for each office are: Boston 29th floor - Suzanne Dube; Boston 30th floor – Kathryn Carey; Greenbrae - Elaine Bosco; Los Angeles – Norma Doyle; and New York - Celines Matos. Keeping in mind October 4th is a regular business day, please use discretion on the jeans you elect to wear. I hope to see you in jeans on October 4th. Join in now with a donation of $5 or more! This is our firm's page to raise money for Denim Days and the American Cancer Society.
