Welcome to my Boston Marathon fundraising page! This year I will be running with Team BMC (Boston Medical Center). This year we are running Boston 2020 for the hospital’s newest endeavor, Vision 2030, which aims to make Boston the healthiest urban population in the world by 2030.
In April 2020, I will be taking to the streets of Boston to run 26.2. As many of you may already know, I moved up to Boston just a few months ago with my company, BlackRock. The colleagues & friends that I have joined in Boston have been long time supporters of Boston Medical Center and have been running the marathon for the past few years. Nothing made me happier when I was asked to join them for 2020’s Boston Marathon.
Running was never my strong suit. I’ve played soccer my entire life and hated every fitness test I had to do. But after graduating college, my cousin Kelsey inspired me to follow in her foot steps... a 3-time marathon runner herself. She coached me through my first half marathon in 2018 in her hometown, Charleston, SC. Ever since crossing that finish line, the addiction kicked in and has led me to find a passion for this sport.
By being able to run with BMC, I'll be a part of a team that will be raising money to keep Boston strong! I am truly thankful to be a part of this experience and appreciate all the support you can provide.
A little bit more about Boston Medical Center:
Since 2002, Boston Medical Center has proudly participated in Boston’s historic marathon, raising more than $6.24 million for the hospital. In 2019, 79 Team BMC runners, including 12 BMC employees, trekked 26.2 miles and took the infamous “Right on Hereford, Left on Boylston” in support of the hospital and its patients. Their dedication was mirrored off the course as well, raising more than $843,000. BMC is grateful to John Hancock and the Boston Athletic Association for making Team BMC possible and for recognizing the unique role BMC plays in keeping Boston healthy and strong.
Boston Medical Center stands as New England’s largest safety net hospital and a national leader in caring for the urban and working poor. Existing principally to care for any and every person who walks through its doors, BMC does so with innovative treatments—many built within its own walls—and an unwavering commitment from providers—who are leaders in their field—and a highly skilled professional staff. Striving to achieve the best possible outcome for every patient isn’t ancillary to BMC’s mission—it is BMC’s mission. With a commitment to health equity, BMC is working toward building healthier communities through national models of care and groundbreaking research, education and social service programs.
Team BMC is running Boston 2020 for the hospital’s newest endeavor, Vision 2030, which aims to make Boston the healthiest urban population in the world by 2030. Vision 2030 encompasses the longstanding belief that when an organization invests in the root causes of urban health issues, the community and its people greatly benefit and thrive. To improve the health of Boston, BMC is uniting community, policy and research leaders to develop, deploy, iterate and evaluate strategies to address social determinants of health and promote equity in our community. The multi-sector collaboration will: advance the health of our community today; and improve conditions linked to poor health outcomes to secure the health of our community for generations to come.
The funds raised through this year's marathon team will go toward making Vision 2030 a reality, driving key investments in the following areas, as well as other endeavors.
· Complex Chronic Disease
· Substance Use Disorders
· Mental Health Disorders:
· Housing Insecurity and Homelessness
· Other Key Social Determinants of Health
Change of this magnitude is only possible when we come together, and we welcome you to join us in our pursuit. Your support is integral to the existence of programs and services our patients rely—and thrive—on, with many depending solely on philanthropic support. By donating to Team BMC you are showing your commitment to the entire city of Boston.
Thank you for supporting Boston Medical Center in its mission to provide exceptional care, without exception!
