Since 2002, Boston Medical Center has proudly participated in Boston’s historic marathon, raising more than $6.24 million for the hospital. It is with great pride that I am happy to say I will be joining them this year in running.
Team BMC is running Boston 2020 for the hospital’s newest endeavor, Vision 2030, which aims to make Boston the healthiest urban population in the world by 2030. Vision 2030 encompasses the longstanding belief that when an organization invests in the root causes of urban health issues, the community and its people greatly benefit and thrive. To improve the health of Boston, BMC is uniting community, policy and research leaders to develop, deploy, iterate and evaluate strategies to address social determinants of health and promote equity in our community. The multi-sector collaboration will: advance the health of our community today; and improve conditions linked to poor health outcomes to secure the health of our community for generations to come.
The funds raised through this year's marathon team will go toward making Vision 2030 a reality, driving key investments in the following areas, as well as other endeavors.
· Housing Insecurity and Homelessness: To improve access to safe and affordable housing options and establish supportive housing interventions for individuals with complex medical and social needs.
· Mental Health Disorders: To integrate mental health services into primary care and expand access to mental health services throughout the community.
· Substance Use Disorders: To reverse the trend in overdose deaths and improve access to evidence-based substance use disorder treatment and harm and risk reduction services.
As I have battled with addiction for many years, this particular cause is very near and dear to my heart. When the event takes place, I will be celebrating almost 3 years of sobriety. Everyone knows someone in their life affected by addiction. I have close friends and family who are in recovery. Some still struggle with their addiction every day. And, unfortunately, I know far too many who have succumbed to their demons and are no longer with us. It is in their memory that I am running..
My goal is to raise $15,000, which will go a long way toward helping the patients of Boston Medical Center, and members of our community, receive the support they need. Change of this magnitude is only possible when we come together, and I welcome you to join us in our pursuit. Your support is integral to the existence of programs and services our patients rely—and thrive—on, with many depending solely on philanthropic support. By donating to Team BMC you are showing your commitment to the entire city of Boston. Please sponsor me on this journey as I race for a cause I am passionate about by making a donation on my page.
I will be posting updates to my fundraising and training regularly on this page as well as my instagram (https://www.instagram.com/dylancabbott) please follow along to see my progress as race day approaches. And don't forget to share my page with all your friends and family. Your generosity makes it possible for BMC to provide life-changing opportunities for so many people. I hope you will consider supporting my race with Team BMC. Thank you for your donation, and thank you for supporting Boston Medical Center in its mission to provide exceptional care, without exception!
