In April of 2019 I will be running the Boston Marathon in honor of Zachary Lederer and my own ten years of cancer survival!
Why I am running for ZACH and his foundation?
On May 1, 1993 my now husband brought me to meet his father and stepmother for the first time. Most people might not remember that particular date, but for me it was a fortuitous one. When we walked into the house, his stepmother called out, "Chrissy had a baby boy! Zachary Monet Lederer!" Little did I know how that day would impact my life, and the life of so many others.
The news that Zachary was diagnosed with cancer at age 11 was heartbreaking for all who knew him. No one wants to see another person go through cancer treatments, let alone a child. But Zach persevered, showing us all his strength, courage, determination, and hope. His quiet dedication to those who were battling the disease, and those who lost that battle, was unrelenting, even then. Zach and I ran a 5K together in support of his friend Ricky who had passed away. Zach with his high top Nikes, me with my expert running shoes. You can imagine who won.
When I received my own diagnosis in 2008, Zach was one of the first people to let me know that I too had strength, courage, determination, and hope. And after his last diagnosis, when he posed with the signature strongman pose, I knew Zach would continue to show those qualities.
I want to help the Zaching Against Cancer Foundation continue this mission. The foundation embodies Zach's ideals. From donating money to cancer research, to scholarships for students who have been affected by cancer, to all of the little things that mean so much to a cancer patient, they are there.
A marathon is 26.2 miles. Zachary would have been 26 years old. So in his honor, please consider donating $26.20 or $1/mile, or $10/mile.
THANK YOU FOR HELPING ME REACH MY GOAL! Every donation will make a difference! Zach wanted to make the world a better place...his foundation is making his wish come true! #livingthedream
