In Texas almost half of the population of individuals with disailities resided in only 10 counties. One of these counties is Bexar Co. (pronounced Bear). In this county 252,000+ people with disabilities reside. Of that number 75,000+ are age 16-24 and if they are employed they earn on average 13,000.00 per year less than those without a disability, and the unemployment rate for this group is 35-65%
Prior to the outbreak of the COVID-19 Virus, San Antonio (located in Bexar County), experienced a relatively low unemployment rate, and while those with disabilities have always found it challenging to find meaninful, self susstaining employment, there were a few major retailers that had opportunities for those with disabilities.
We want to ensure that those with significant barriers to employment have a fair shot at those positions that will be left after COVID-19. We know the competition for these jobs will be tough, but we believe with the right support, and training our 'Boot Campers' can be Job Ready, and Competitive.
We will explore ways to maximize employment opportunities in the most integrated and inclusive settings possible!
