Working in a public library, you hear a lot of sad stories. So many people we get to know and care about are going through the exhausting, heart-breaking experience of living with dementia - on both sides of this horrible disease. This isn't something that affects only the patient. It takes a toll on everyone who knows and loves them - family, friends, neighbors. The primary care-giver can feel totally over-whelmed, scared, and alone. I found out first-hand exactly how difficult this life can be when my own husband was diagnosed back in 2010. Once I discovered them, the people at AFCSC were there for me through the last few awful years. I can honestly say, I don't know how I could have made it through without their support and guidance. Vaughn, Molly and Melanie saved my life. My husband died a few months ago but I know all the great people at AFCSC are still there for me. All that they provide is free to everyone, regardless of financial circumstances. However, it costs money to provide these urgently needed services and I feel that it is now my turn to help them to help others in this situation. I'm walking it for Steve and I'm doing it for all the people in my life who are or have already gone through this nightmare. Won't you help me do that, please? And this year, whatever we raise will be matched dollar for dollar! How awesome is that??
