On June 1, 2020 looters descended on a number of business districts in The Bronx just to destroy and steal. The majority of these stores were owned by immigrants who came to this country to make a better life for themselves and their families in communities that have long been disregarded by mainstream stores.
Over 50 stores were looted. The average cost to reopen each with new gates, glass and supplies averages $70,000. The few that had insurance have discovered that very little of their loss is covered.
These businesses are still waiting on the $10,000 grant promised to them by the City of New York. ALL need more than that to either reopen or they will be faced with permanently deferring their dream.
The Bronx is strong, and its residents and businesses have done a lot in the last ten years to improve their neighborhoods and put their best foot forward. They need your support now.
BOEDC will be the fiscal conduit. We are a nonprofit Economic Development Corporation that has supported Bronx businesses for almost 50 years. More than 10 Billion dollars of private equity have been invested in our borough in the last ten years.
100% of the funds collected will go to the businesses impacted. We will pay the administrative fees and provide them with the Technical Support they will need to become sustainable for the long run.
Together, we can undo the physical harm done to their businesses so that they can then work on the emotional scars left by this. Help rebuild our Bronx business victims.
