Hello. You might remember my husband Bob. He's the one that liked to sit quietly with his wife, creating a space for just the two of us. That's what it looked like from the outside. He wasn't comfortable showing other people his quirky, passionate, funny nature. And then Hospice Wellington held an Open House. And he met Taksim, one of the therapy dogs there, and his owner Peggy. Bob and Taksim quickly became good friends! He enquired about spending time with Taksim, and was disappointed to hear that the therapy dog program was not available to community clients. Bob was so passionate in his desire to see Taksim that Peggy and Hospice Wellington initiated a program for the community clients shortly thereafter. The program continues to this day and has been so successful that they are being seen as an innovator in programming. The last six months of Bob's life brought him joy with Taksim, Ilsa, and Daisy, every Friday. The people in the Day Away program he attended there Wednesdays became his friends, and then his family. He had found acceptance in his last months. Hospice Wellington also gave me, his wife and caregiver, tremendous support. And now that I am in bereavement, I am able to continue with them, receiving much needed support. Please join me in helping to support Hospice Wellington so that they can continue doing this amazing work.
