We support the Run to Home Base in memory of Petty Officer Zachary "Doc" Mayo, a veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. As a Navy Corpsman, he served with a Marine infantry unit as a medic, affectionately known among all Marines as a "Devil Doc". Zack was beloved by his Marines since his only concern was their well-being. He was cited for his heroism under fire. Zack treated at The Home Base Program due to the severe effects of combat PTSD. While he did not make it, we hope to help other veterans with this horrible condition.
This phrase sums up the commitment of a Navy Corpsman:
"A Navy Corpsman will go to the gates of hell to save a wounded Marine, even if it costs him his own life. These men are the embodiment of courage".
