The 9/11 Promise Run, established in 2016, is an event that is being held to keep a promise that was made in 2001 when our country, the United States of America, was attacked. Many lives were lost, and we continue to deal with the aftermath. This event honors the lives lost, the emergency personnel who responded with the greatest of courage, and our military who continue to fight for this country’s safety and freedom, here and abroad.
Our team includes Montclair Firefighter Thomas (TJ) Hargraves, Hamilton Fire Captain Harold (JR) Summers, and Hamilton Firefighter Kelly Montesano. Firefighter Hargraves is also an Instructor at the Mercer County Fire Academy. Captain Summers also works at Plumstead Fire District 1 and is an Instructor at the Mercer County Fire Academy. Firefighter Montesano is also an EMT with Trenton EMS.
On 9/9/2019 we will start our journey, biking from the Pentagon area and head toward the Flight 93 Memorial in Shanksville, PA. 198 miles with 13,558 feet of elevation! We will make stops at VERY generous Firehouses who will refuel us with delicious meals.
The first day we will ride 91 miles on relatively flat roads and spend the night at the Vigilant Hose Company in Emmitsburg, PA. Day 2 we will saddle up and ride 107 miles with 9,100 feet of elevation! It will be a challenging day but will remind us of the determination showed by the passengers and crew of United 93 during their final heroic moments.
Day 3 we will wake up and take part in the 9/11 ceremony at the Flight 93 Memorial.
Our fellow teamates from the Promise Run will be running from the Pentagon to Ground Zero! We wish them all the best of luck!
Thank you all for your support . God Bless!
In 2018, the 9/11 Promise Run, Inc. established 501(c)(3) status and so in 2019, the mission of the event becomes even greater! Fundraising efforts will continue as the 9/11 Promise Run charity provides scholarships to qualified children of first responders and military service members who have been killed or injured and are unable to hold employment. As this charity and part of the mission is new, and fundraising is just beginning, the first scholarships will be awarded starting in the academic school year of 2020/21.
The opportunity to remember and honor, to raise funds for children of those who have sacrificed for our communities and nation, and to grow with family and friends.
