The Black Lives Matter movement has accomplished many progressive changes throughout the country, with some bills being passed that help keep cops accountable. It is clear that protesting has brought awareness to the issue. Even with bills like Breanna's Bill being passed, there are still injustices that need to be rectified. Her murders have still not been arrested and convicted. There were 7 lynchings within a week. Robert Fuller was hung in Palmdale and then his half-brother was shot by the Palmdale police that same week. BIPOC needs legislation to protect them. If it is not promised in a bill, then there are no guarantees. This conversation must not stop.
Black Lives Still Matter is a local youth San Diego county movement that has mobilized to keep the momentum going and to make sure legislation is passed to keep cops accountable. The group will be leading protests throughout the county, meeting with local council members, negotiating with local police, registering voters, and working to unify the community through social change.
Things we need:
+ Materials for signs, posters, and flyers
+ Speakers, megaphones, mics, cables
+ Water, food, and medical supplies, face masks
+ Bail funds
+ Website and social media ads
+ Meeting facilities
We plan to use donations to develop merchandise that continues the conversations through various graphic designs from local artists. We also are looking to develop a website that centralizes the information for the movement and can be used as an educational tool as well, including publications and other sources that define systemic racism. Lastly we would like to purchase equipment that would aid in protests such as medical equipment, sound equipment and event organizations. All of this will enable us to develop a platform that we will use to meet with local officials throughout San Diego county. Our goal is to pass as much progressive reform as possible to ensure black lives are safe and protected
All additional proceeds will be donated to other Black Lives Matter organizations along with proof of donations!
