For the last couple of years I have used my birthday as an opportunity to raise money for Random Acts. Here's why this year is no different...
"At Random Acts, it's our mission to conquer the world one random act of kindness at a time. We are here to inspire acts of kindness around the world both big and small. We provide a vast network of caring people with the encouragement and support they need to change lives for the better."
A registered charity run entirely by volunteers, Random Acts helps fund random acts of kindness around the world and with the help of donations has been able to achieve and assist in some incredible things.
These opportunities for kindness range from donation collection drives at conventions for charities such as animal shelters, soup kitchens and outreach programmes all the way up to the bigger campaigns such as their dream2acts Nicaragua project.
The dreams2acts Nicaragua project was born from a request from The Free High School in San Juan del Sur (another nonprofit) that provides access to education for those excluded from regular schools in the area including: women with children, anyone over eighteen, people who work during the week and those who live too far away to attend daily high schools. The Free High School were asking for funding to provide a bus to help those who could not afford the bus fare, those who were skipping lunch in order to afford to attend or walking for hours just so they could get there. Money raised by Random Acts not only bought the bus but has gone on to complete an even more incredible project - providing A Center for Human Development which serves as a whole new campus for the high school. Random Acts are currently working to build a daycare centre on campus as well as fund the school's operational costs.
In 2018 alone Random Acts completed the Free High School in San Juan Del Sur, disbursed hundreds of thousands of dollars to help victims of catastrophic storms, funded operations at the Jacmel Children's Center, started an initiative to fight childhood hunger and have funded hundreds of smaller acts around the world.
Random Acts is especially close to my heart as they sponsored my training to become a crisis responder for the IMALIVE crisis support network. IMALIVE is the first online network with 100% of it's volunteers trained and certified in crisis intervention and volunteering with them is the most rewarding thing I have ever done. Thousands of chats come in to IMALIVE a month and thanks to Random Acts we have all the more people trained and ready to listen.
That is why for my birthday this year I'd like to raise as much as possible for Random Acts. With your help we can change the world - one random act of kindness at a time.
