The International Rescue Committee was founded in 1933 at the request of Albert Einstein, who was a refugee. The mission of the IRC is to help people whose lives and livelihoods are shattered by conflict and disaster to survive, recover and gain control of their future. Now, I see first hand all the wonderful work this organization does. Locally, our New York and New Jersey offices help resettled refugees with English classes, job readiness training, cultural orientation, mental health support, assistance finding housing and with other vital needs. We also help recently reunified families who had been separated at the border, and we support local immigrant communities by providing low-cost immigration-related legal services. If you are inclined to help, please know your donation will go directly to serving people in need, during a time when they are vulnerable and scared.
