Hey folks, today is my birthday and like most everyone on the planet, I'll be spending the day at home, physically distancing.
There is a lot of fear and uncertainty associated with this global pandemic, and I truly believe gun violence must be a part of that conversation. We need to ensure leaders are doing everything the can to educate the public about dangers of guns in the home, the importance of safe storage to end family fire, and promoting mechanisms to prevent firearm suicide and domestic violence while people are being asked to stay at home.
I'm proud to be approaching my one year anniversary at Brady, where we are working every day to ensure our leaders are dealing with gun violence amidst this emergency and every day beyond it. After my Mom was killed in 2005, Brady was the organization where I found my voice as an advocate. I am so excited to be a representative of this incredible organization 15 years later. Non profits, in particular, will need support in the coming months and my birthday wish this year is that those that have the means help make a small donation today to Brady, in honor of my mother - who if we are being honest, really did all the work on my Birthday in '86.
I appreciate all of you and hope everyone is taking care while flattening the curve this month!
