Birth Control for Crisis-Affected Women
I'm taking on the 'What's your 50?' challenge created by my friend Kristen Weinberg, to spread kindness and love by matching charities in need with people who want to help. I’ve decided to support 50 women/girls in crisis-affected countries gain access to birth control of their choice. I've chosen this because having control around reproductive health gives women more than just control over their bodies, it can provide control around their futures. For women and girls in crisis-affected countries, this mission is especially important. Sexual violence, domestic violence and forced marriage are the reality for many girls and young women across the world. These women and their babies are then at risk for maternal and/or child death due to poor, or no, prenatal and newborn care. Just $15 covers birth control costs for a year for a woman in need. https://www.rescue.org/article/five-toughest-places-world-be-woman-today
My goal is to raise $750, or support for 50 women, at $15/woman. I'm going to cover the cost for 12 girls, one each month, in honor of Kristen's 50th birthday this year. I hope you will help me meet the needs of another 38 girls! All donations are going to the International Rescue Committee, a top-rated charity who responds to the world's worst humanitarian crises, helping to restore health, safety, education, economic wellbeing and power to people devastated by conflict and disaster.
