Hi! My name is Nick Chien, and this year I will be graduating from Blind Brook High School and attending New York University with the Class of 2025. Last year on March 5th, 2020, I was side swiped by an SUV while on my bike, cycling through Purchase, and although I sustained heavy injuries that required surgery, I was fortunate enough to afford health care and recover within a year.
My goal is to cycle across the country in 5 weeks totaling 3000 miles and 100,000 feet of climbing and descending. I plan to start in Washington Square Park, NY, and end in Santa Monica Pier, CA.
In honor of my experiences, I will be fundraising for International Medical Corps, an organization that provides health care to the less fortunate in countries worldwide. International Medical Corps is based out of Los Angeles, where I will be ending my journey. IMC provides health care to 30 countries in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, North America, and the Caribbean.
I’m riding in an attempt to raise $12,000, corresponding to $4 per mile of the journey across the country from New York to California.
