The Marietta, GA Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society, d.b.a. Big Chicken Chorus, strives to preserve and encourage the singing of Barbershop Harmony in a professional and congenial atmosphere. Our purpose is to enrich the quality of life in our community, engage our audiences, provide musical education and performance opportunities to the youth of our community, and provide musical challenge and reward to our singers.
Unfortunately, under the rules of "shelter-in-place," the Big Chicken Chorus can neither rehearse or perform for an audience. Traditionally we present two annual performances to offset our annual "Fixed expenses" which include music licensing and acquisition fees, professional musical direction and coaching, rehearsal space rental, and liability insurance to name a few. Our members pay dues and donate generously from their own resources to help offset these expense, but we rely heavily on our ability to perform in the community as a primary source of revenue in support of our mission. The present Shelter-In-Place rules have removed our opportunity to generate revenue from those performances.
The Big Chicken Chorus supports choral music in our schools via our Youth-In-Harmony programs: Real Men Sing, a one-day choral clinic for young men in area middle and high schools; and Georgia Spirit, an age 18 and under mixed voice ensemble that travels to participate in the annual Barbershop Harmony Society Next Generation Choral Festival. In January of 2021, Georgia Spirit will travel to New York City for the Next Generation Festival. We frequently provide gratis performances in the community for other non-profit organizations and events.
We ask for your support to help us continue our mission into the future.
