I am thrilled to share that I will be running the 2020 Boston Marathon for Team Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center on behalf of the Cancer Center!
This past year, the term cancer has played an integral role in my life. When I first wrote this, my father and grandfather both received cancer diagnoses and my best friend lost her wonderful cousin to breast cancer. In the months that followed my mother was diagnosed with a rare sarcoma. Alongside the many emotions I've felt, I've also had plenty of questions. My colleagues and mentors at BIDMC have supported me relentlessly throughout the year. They've offered their clinical knowledge, resources, a listening ear, and closed office space to compose myself. They have been nothing but understanding and accommodating and they have taught me how to better handle myself when life throws curveballs. It is an honor to be able to give back to the organization who has given so much to me and more importantly to the patients who continue to inspire the way I perceive life.
I was asked to reflect on my reasons for running the Boston Marathon and I came up with quite a few: for my mother, who shows admirable bravery as she faces the uncertainty, for my father, who showed unwavering strength and courage during his experience with colon cancer all while continuing to be our main source of humor, for my grandfather who continues to see the positives in each day despite his lung cancer, for my grandmother who wanted nothing more than to see us all healthy and successful, for my family who has suffered the effects of cancer for far too long, and for my own health which I feel so lucky to have.
Thank you in advance for your generous support!!
