Why am I doing this???
I'm doing this because I CAN... and I want to make a difference to an organization that means a lot to me!
Three years ago (Nov 2016) I had a full rupture of my achilles tendon. After successful surgery and 6 months of rehab, I was able to finally walk without a limp... I certainly didnt think I would run another Marathon. However I am turning 50 this year, so I decided to sign up for the 2019 NYC Marathon lottery, and I got an entry! I started to train again and although my weak leg resulted in an injury which caused me to suspend my training just before the marathon, I ran anyway (I was in a lot of pain for the last 6 miles).
This was a pivotal period for me: I was in so much "voluntary pain" all I could think of is the many people near and dear to me who deal with "involuntary pain" through hardships and illness every day... I felt so fortunate... I embraced the pain!
I decided I wanted to take all the hard work I put in, and run Boston and raise money for Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (one of the premier Harvard Medical School teaching hospitals in Boston).
My family, friends and community are sooooo fortunate to have organizations like BIDMC in our back yard. It not only serves our community, our city, our region, our country, but also has far reaching impact on Global Healthcare. Please support my quest to make a meaningful impact to this amazing institution!
