Jamie Gaines's Boston Marathon Fundraising Page
Dear Family and Friends,
I've decided to run the 2020 Boston Marathon with Team BIDMC for the Bowdoin Street's Healthy Champions Program.
It may come as a shock that I've decided to lace up my sneakers and run 26.2 miles, but once you read why you'll want to run too!
I recently was granted the opportunity to check out Bowdoin Street's Healthy Champions Program. I was absolutely blown away with the work they do within the community. The Healthy Champions Program is an anti-obesity, education, fitness, and community-building initiative serving children in the Bowdoin/Geneva neighborhood of Dorchester. Participants, or Healthy Champions, learn about the importance of healthy nutrition, food preparation, food access in their neighborhood, and fitness and healthy lifestyles. Perhaps most importantly, Healthy Champions serve as "ambassadors of health" to their families and peers in the community, sharing their knowledge about health and wellness while developing a sense of confidence in their ability to effect healthy changes in themselves and in the wider community. What started as a year trial, the program is now entering it's 10th year in business. The program not only provides reasons why everyone should maintain a healthy lifestyle but they teach everyone how to do so through different platforms relevatant everyday living. It's a safe place that has redifined aspiration and future empowerment in the next generation.
This program can't economically run without the help of the Boston Marathon Donations and this year I am absolutely delighted to be one of those selcted few! Please help me support Bowdoin Street's Healthy Champions Program, together we can make change!
