After starting in 2017, we have seen requests for emergency shelter double each year. We continue to work with individuals and families to get them into a temporary shelter setup at local hotels until dedicated shelters have the space to take them in. But we are finding more and more clients left on growing waitlists for emergency shelter resources anywhere from a couple of weeks to months when they are in desperate situations that need an immediate solution as they have no where else to go.
There are also ridiculously few resources in the hill country to the West of Austin. We started BHCH to provide support to individuals and families trying to get out of domestic violence situations, and we need your help to get our clients into a better temporary shelter situation beyond just a night or two at a hotel.
We are asking for you to partner with us to raise funds so that we can continue to provide emergency services and move forward with creating a safe home at an undisclosed location that women and families will be able to go to in order to receive temporary help until space opens up at larger shelters. This will allow us to offer more than a couple of days in a hotel such that we will be able to work with clients longer to get them tangible solutions and resources.
While $500,000 certainly won't cover everything, it will get us moving in the right direction to get a shelter space started and allow for room and future support to grow.
