The project started in late 2015 and has been gaining momentum in the last few years with the addition of Mr. Sunil Mahajan, project coordinator and continued support from Bishop Kasab and Project Director Rev. P. Aksal. The project team has been working in the Dalit villages surrounding the city of Aurangabad in the Marathwada region of the where CNI Diocese of Marathwada is located.
Focus of the project has on two clusters covering several villages. Among this migrant labor communities women and children carry the heaviest burden of lack of resources. Malnourishment, women's health, prenatal and neonatal care, lack of safe drinking water, malnutrition, and childhood education have been the main focus.
For the next phase of the project, the focus will be on mainstreaming gender concerns in program and policy, protection of women's rights, women's leadership, community based center for learning and advocacy, ad formation of a Mahila Aadikar Munch (a women's support group).
While we are aslo seeking institutional funding, support from loved ones of Bishop George Ninan and family goes a long way in providing all of us with a means to live out our Christian responsibilities. All donations, big and small are apprecated.
